THE ART HOTEL

In 2004, START SOMA started putting on art shows in the newly created Hotel des Arts, a boutique hotel located across the street from the Chinatown Gate in San Francisco's Union Square.

Following an extensive renovation of the Hotel Alisa, the Hotel des Arts opened and START SOMA created a groundbreaking series of PAINTED ROOMS art shows, in which dozens of guest rooms were transformed into works of art by some absolutely amazing artists from around the world.

Along with the PAINTED ROOMS art shows, START SOMA also curated an eclectic series of exhibitions at the art hotel - including ROCKSTAR PHOTOGRAPHY + ART FROM VIDEOGAMES, along with a series of first-time solo shows for artists including Casey O'Connell + MISK 1.

The next art show at the Hotel des Arts is our most ambituous undertaking to date.

NEW ART 08 is a juried art show that will showcase dozens of emerging artists, most of whom have not shown their work publicly.

START SOMA just released the call for submissions, and we have already been absolutely astounded by the quality of the artwork that has been submitted.

NEW ART O8 opens in September 2008 at the Hotel des Arts.
